Dr. David Raphael
Dr. David Raphael grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He went to college at Tufts University in Boston where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biopsychology and Master’s degree in Child Development. At Tufts, Dr. David played lacrosse and was twice elected captain of his team. After graduating, he taught high school math and coached lacrosse in Boston and then San Diego.
Dr. David returned to Baltimore where he earned his dental degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He came to OHSU and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for his residency in Pediatric Dentistry where he trained to work with children who have a variety of dental and medical needs.
Dr. David is active in community service projects in the Portland area and has gone on dental missions to India, Bolivia, and Guatemala. He was previously an Assistant Professor in the Pediatric Dentistry Department at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. He is a board member of Smile Oregon, an organization that provides support to children in the Oregon community who have cleft and craniofacial conditions.
Dr. David and his wife Lesley have two very active boys, Jack and Charlie. With Jack leading the way, the boys are always finding new and creative ways to make a mess and put themselves in peril. Dr. David is busy at home but still tries to carve out some time to enjoy his favorite outdoor activities: surfing, skiing, fishing, scuba diving, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. David’s goal is to provide a dental experience that is safe and fun for children. He takes the time to work with children and parents to make sure that they feel comfortable and confident that they are receiving the best treatment available.
